Autograph album of Lucy P. Lewis of [Westmoreland County, Va.?]. The album contains signatures of friends in Confederate service, verse, transcriptions of letters, newsclippings, pressed flowers and leaves and a pressed butterfly. Of interest is a specimen of John Surratt's handwriting on a letter cover and dated 1864 by Lewis. The volume, entitled "The tender thought" was published by Leavitt & Allen of New York and includes six engravings interspersed between blank pages of different colors. The volume is bound in brown, blindstamped leather in which a diamond of gold-stamped green morocco is inlaid on both front and rear covers. The title is stamped in gilt within the diamond; all edges gilt.
